Think HALO meets Greys Anatomy, minus Dr. McDreamy
The Da Vinci Surgeon is the latest endeavor of the Pentagon, to employ a way for surgeons to perform operations remotely, without being on the frontlines or at sea.
Imagine that, Dr. FeelGood sets up his laptop at your local bank--- [[[hi-speed link a must, "dial-up" is not an option ]]]--- and proceeds with his scheduled coronary bypass surgery. The DaVinci System now allows for doctors to NOT have to crack open the chest cavity and expose the fragile heart to bacteria and un-needed stress. Using a laparoscopic technique, the surgeon manipulates a long skinny camera called a laparoscope and a few other chopstick-like instruments that are inserted through tiny incisions in the body.
The doctor sits at an ergonomically designed computer console, almost like a sit-down arcade game from the 1980s, and remotely operates three skinny cylindrical robotic arms that perform the surgery with mini precision scissors and extensions.
Fantastic pic BTW!
